How to Make a Mardi Gras Door Hanger

Writer: ARK BuildersARK Builders

Items Needed:

  • Wooden, Circle Door Hanger from your local craft store

  • White, Green, Purple, and Golden Yellow acrylic paint

  • Black Paint Pen

  • A drop cloth or something to paint on

  • Blow Dryer

  • Pencil

  • Large & Medium Brushes

  • Clear Spray Sealant (Krylon or Aleen's)

Let's get started!

  1. Bring all those supplies home and set up a work space.

  2. You'll start by stenciling out the design in the photo.

  3. Once you've stenciled it in pencil, paint the entire circle white (you'll be doing two coats of every color)!

  4. You can blow dry in-between to make the drying process go faster.

  5. Start on your second coat after it is completly dry.

  6. Pick a color to start with (Purple, Green, Yellow) and mark the letters and beads you'll be painting that color. Go ahead and start painting those letters and beads that color.

  7. Make sure it is dry every time you go to do the second coat.

  8. You'll do steps 6 and 7 until you are finished doing two coats of each color and it's dry.

  9. Get you're black paint pen out! Don't worry if your lines are 100% perfect because this pen does some magic. You're going to outline everything in black as shown in the photo.

  10. After you're done outlining, make sure you take that paint pen and paint the words "it's" and " y'all".

  11. Don't think you're done yet! You're going to dab a brush in white paint and create small stokes on the letters and beads as shown in the photo. (And no, you don't go over this one twice)

  12. Once you're done with everything, take the clear spray sealant and coat the entire hanger.

  13. Let this dry for 30 minutes before trying to move it.

  14. Congrats! You now have a door hanger! :)
